Summer Holidays and your Eyes

The warmer Summer months can take their toll on your eyes, from the effects of pollen to the chlorine in swimming pools and increased light exposure itself.

Here are some tips on how to keep your eyes looking bright this summer.

Summer sports

Whether swimming, sailing, water skiing or scuba diving, it’s important that you take precautions to protect your eyes. Following the advice below should help to keep your eyes healthy whilst still being able to enjoy summer sports.’

Pools

  • Wear goggles in a swimming pool to prevent your eyes from being irritated from the chlorine.
  • Do not swim with your contact lenses in as this increases your risk of infection from organisms in the water.
  • If you normally need contact lenses or wear glasses, you can buy prescription swimming goggles that won’t break the bank.

Very important: Always make sure you discuss and make decisions about your eye care based upon a formal appointment with your optician.
